We’re continually working to reduce our environmental footprint and improve the way we use energy, water and resources—now and into the future.



Low-Emission Transport

We’ve transitioned to cleaner, quieter transport options:

100% battery-powered buggies across the park.
Removal of larger fuel-powered utility vehicles.



Energy Efficiency

We’ve made significant upgrades to improve energy efficiency across the park:

Installed 12 x 5-star split system air-conditioners throughout the park.
Removed older wall heaters and portable heaters.
Upgraded to LED lighting across the park.
Implemented timers, sensors and energy-efficient settings on lighting, heating and cooling.

These improvements have delivered an estimated 66% reduction in CO₂ emissions.



Waste Reduction

We’re actively reducing waste and limiting our environmental impact:

Paperless guest check-in.
Transition to recyclable products and packaging.
Reduction of single-use plastics.
On-site glass recycling for guests and staff.

In partnership with the local Rotary Club, our glass recycling program also helps raise funds for local charities—supporting both the environment and our community.



We are proud to be recognised for our commitment to sustainable tourism:

Quality Tourism Accredited Business (Australian Tourism Industry Council)

We’ve also developed an Environment Best Practice Policy aligned with Ecotourism Australia standards and are working towards achieving ECO Certification.



Water Conservation

Water is a precious resource, and we take care in how we use it:

Water-saving plumbing fixtures across all amenities and kitchens.
Timers installed on all irrigation systems to prevent overwatering.
Drip irrigation to minimise water waste.
Drought-tolerant native plantings throughout the park.



Wonderful place to stay. We have stayed here more than a dozen times over more than 15 years and can honestly say that it's probably one of our favorite parks. The layout is superb, it's close to the Botanic Gardens, the Mill and some great pubs. The staff are always friendly; the park is always clean and has plenty of activities. It's a hidden gem and one we will just keep coming back to in all seasons. Credit to the owners past and present it's a pleasure to visit.

We stayed in the Safari tent. Big4 Castlemaine is a great place for family's and kids and your doggo too. It's safe to let them explore and have fun. Staff we're friendly and accommodating. The facilities are excellent and well maintained. It's a great opportunity to meet and make new friends.

Our stay at Big 4 Castlemaine was very good, our cabin was spotless and nicely prepared, it is in a great location and considering the terrible weather our cabin was very cosy and had all the facilities we needed for an enjoyable stay, we’ll definitely stay again
